How do I obtain a copy of a vital record?
Complete and return the form attached at the bottom of this page. Certificates can only be obtained by individual, child of person on certificate or his/her representative, i.e. person having power-of-attorney, an attorney, or estate executor.
How do I obtain a marriage license?
Both bride and groom have to be present to obtain a marriage license. If
either are a resident of West Virginia, you need to apply for the
license in the county of your residence. If you live in separate
counties, you can apply for the license in either county of residence.
If not a resident of WV, you can apply for the license in any county.
Verification of birth date is needed (driver's license, passport, birth
certificate). If either had a previous marriage, the date the previous
marriage ended will be needed. Bride and Groom will need to know mother's
and father's full names, place of birth and mother's maiden name. A
marriage license will be issued to you to be presented to the officiate
performing the marriage and is valid for 60 days. After the marriage is
performed the license will be returned to us and a complimentary copy
will be mailed to the bride and groom.
As
of June 8, 2012 the fee for a marriage license increased to $56.00.
This fee is reduced to $36.00 if the applicants present a premarital
education course completion certificate issued pursuant to section seven hundred one, article two, chapter forty-eight of - WV Code §59-1-10, and dated within one year of the application for a marriage license.
